Atterbury National Piano Competition – A Platform for South Africa’s Young Pianists
The Atterbury National Piano Competition, founded in 2011, is one of South Africa’s leading music competitions dedicated to identifying, nurturing and celebrating the talents of young pianists. With a mission to promote artistic excellence and provide vital performance experience, the competition offers a prestigious platform for aspiring classical musicians under the age or 20.
Held annually at the renowned Fairtree Atterbury Theatre in Pretoria, the competition draws participants from across South Africa and is structured into three age categories, ensuring fairness and relevance to each performer’s stage of development. The event attracts participants from diverse backgrounds, fostering musical excellence and providing a stepping stone for aspiring artists pursuing professional careers in classical music.
A hallmark of the competition is its rigorous adjudication process, with a panel of highly respected South African judges evaluating contestants based on technical proficiency, interpretation, musicality, and stage presence.
